Sequences is a UI module I designed and developed while building-out the Chapter 11 TV website.
Ch11 started as a sort of anti-brand.. Dane had become disillusioned with representing major surf brands as they went through a boom and bust cycle through the 2010s.
The philosophy of the website was aimed to complement the brand's curious, reductive and off-beat mission and aesthetic. We did odd layouts, web 1.0 colors, intentionally broken markup, and repetitive imagery.
Early website
While the website bordered subversive, I was layering in content, such as this css-only :hover glitch effect (tap on mobile).
Early on, the content team wanted a way to show trick sequences, a popular layout in old surf and skate magazines.
I explored some different carousel options.
I landed on the "animate-on-scroll" design; it was fun and surprising!
We included Sequences in blog pages and ran it on the home page.
As the brand matured, the website turned into a more standardized affair. But the spirit of fun and irreverence of the early days carries on.
